Kodiak to Seward Submarine Cable
George Magnusen, ex Kodiak city fire chief, said he ran a boat that towed
targets as well as installed a submarine cable from Kodiak to Seward. There
were other cables to Spruce Island and elsewhere too. The cable protection
zone is still shown on modern nautical charts. The cable shown here is
one conductor AWG number 10, 7-strand copper. It is armored and the total
diameter is about one and a quarter inch.
Here are pictures of the
cable landing site in Monashka Bay below the landfill site at N57 49' 9" W152 24' 13".
